The Australian National University (ANU) is located in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. Established in 1946, ANU is a national research university founded through an Act of the Australian Parliament, making it the only university in Australia created by federal legislation. Since its establishment, the University has been renowned for its high standards of research and elite education, and has long been regarded as a leading center for academic excellence and public policy research in Australia.
ANU is a member of Australia’s Group of Eight (Go8) universities and is also the only Australian institution in the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), reflecting its significant influence in global higher education and research. Guided by its motto, “First to learn the nature of things,” the University emphasizes fundamental research, critical thinking, and a long-term commitment to contributing to society.
