π’ 1151 Semester General Education Foreign Language Course Registration Guidelines (Stage 1)

Dear Students,
Please find below the important guidelines for Stage 1 course registration of General Education Foreign Language courses for the 1151 semester:
πΉ 1. Sophomore English (Thematic Courses)
(1) Credit Requirements
- Cohort 112
- Total: 5 credits across 3 semesters
- Limit: One course per semester (No limit for seniors)
- Graduation requirement:
- Complete 3 different thematic English courses
- (Including EL163 Freshman Pre-sessional English; students who did not take EL163 may take other thematic courses as substitutes)
- Cohorts 113 & 114
- Total: 4 credits across 2 semesters
- Limit: One course per semester
- Graduation requirement:
- Complete 2 different thematic English courses
(2) Course Selection Rules
- Students must select courses according to their college schedules.
- If course time conflicts with required departmental courses:
- Please visit the Language Center during the registration period to submit a Course Issue Form.
(3) TOEIC Mock Test Requirement
- Students scoring below 350 on the Freshman English post-test must:
- Enroll in EL260 Test Preparation Course
- Drop other thematic English courses
- If the TOEIC mock score remains below 350 after completion:
- The course will be marked Fail
- Students must repeat EL260 until reaching 350 or above
- Only then may they register for other thematic English courses
- Students not meeting this rule:
- Incorrectly enrolled courses will be removed before Stage 3 registration
(4) Transfer Students (Cohorts 113 & 114)
- Students without valid English proficiency records must:
- Take an English placement test at the Language Center during Stage 1 or Stage 2
- Then proceed with course selection
(5) Course Selection Limit
- One course per semester only

- EL221 β English Literature and Reading
- EL222 β Practical Technology English

- EL226 β English through Internet
- EL227 β Practical English Writing
- EL228 β Oral Communication in English
- EL260 β Test Preparation Course (Required for students scoring below 350)
- EL261 β Advanced Test Preparation
- EL232 β IELTS Preparation
- EL233 β Public Speaking
- EL235 β Basic Translation (English-Chinese)
- EL238 β Tourism English
- EL429 β Interpretation (I)
- EL431 β Translation (I)
(Note: Some courses recommend completion of intermediate/advanced freshman English.)
πΉ 2. Freshman English (I)
- Courses are pre-assigned according to class schedules
- Not open for selection
- Retake or extended-study students:
- Must visit the Language Center to submit a request form during registration
πΉ 3. English Proficiency Courses (EL360 / EL160)
- Scheduled to open in 1152 semester
- For credit waiver:
- Register test scores via Portal:
- Portal β Applications β Language Certification β Upload results
- Bring original certificate and student ID to the Language Center for verification
- Register test scores via Portal:
- Remedial course eligibility:
- Senior students only
- Must meet one of the following:
- Have taken an approved English test with a converted grade of βFβ
- OR have valid campus online test results
πΉ 4. Other Foreign Language Electives
- Students may freely select via the system
- If applying to replace English with a second language:
- Must select second language courses during Stage 1 to reserve seats
πΉ 5. Important Reminder
- Students who attended the Summer Freshman English Camp:
- Please check Portal for EL163 credits

- International students may take up to 10 credits of Chinese language courses.
The required 10 credits must include 2 credits of βChinese Proficiency (Mandarin Certification)β.
