Handled in accordance with the "Regulations for the Establishment of Academic Awards by the Ministry of Education" (hereinafter referred to as "the Regulations").
-
The Academic Award is conferred upon individuals who are actively engaged in academic research in Taiwan, have made significant contributions or outstanding achievements, and are recognized by the academic community. Applicants must not fall under any circumstances specified in Article 14, Paragraph 1, or Article 15, Paragraph 1 of the Teachers' Act. Those without Republic of China (ROC) nationality must have held a full-time position at a domestic junior college, university, or academic research institution for at least 5 years. Previous recipients of this Academic Award may not apply again.
-
According to Articles 3 and 5 of the Regulations, each recommending institution may recommend up to 4 applicants per category. Candidates who have received the Presidential Science Prize, the Executive Yuan Award for Outstanding Contributions in Science and Technology, or the National Science and Technology Council Outstanding Research Award twice, and have obtained joint recommendations from two Academicians of Academia Sinica or National Chair Award recipients in the relevant field (excluding the candidate themselves), may be submitted through their service institution after internal approval; their quota is not subject to the 4-candidate limit. However, the additional quota is limited to double the original quota (i.e., up to 8 candidates per category).
-
To ensure the recommendation process of the employing institution is prudent and rigorous, full-time faculty of junior colleges or universities, or full-time personnel of academic research institutions, must be reviewed by their employing institution. The review process must comply with the principle of conflict of interest avoidance, and only cases approved after deliberation shall be submitted to the Ministry. Nominators (self-nomination is not permitted) must meet one of the following criteria:
-
Presidents of public or private junior colleges or universities.
-
Heads of public or private academic research institutions.
-
Academicians of Academia Sinica.
-
Five professors in the relevant academic field.
-
-
The approved award quota is divided into 5 categories: "Humanities and Arts," "Social Sciences," "Mathematics and Natural Sciences," "Biological, Medical, and Agricultural Sciences," and "Engineering and Applied Sciences." The quota for "Humanities and Arts" and "Social Sciences" is 3 recipients each, and 4 recipients for each of the remaining 3 categories, totaling 18 recipients (awards may be left vacant).
-
The recommendation form template and the institutional checklist are attached (available for download directly from the Department of Higher Education website / Electronic Bulletin Board). When reporting to the Ministry, please enclose with the official letter: the recommendation form (including Chinese and English Word versions, and the sealed/stamped PDF electronic file), 5 hard copies and PDF files of the submitted publications, and 1 electronic CD/disc. Notes for filling out the forms are as follows:
-
The recommendation form must detail the nominee's educational background, experience, research process, academic awards received, and an explanation of significant research achievements. Please do not write "refer to attachment." It should be typed and printed in A4 format, limited to a maximum of 30 pages. For publications submitted for review, please select up to 5 representative publications at your discretion; reference publications should be presented in table format in the recommendation form, without the need to send physical copies. Applicants who applied last year should indicate newly added publications to facilitate review. Submitted publications will not be returned regardless of whether the award is granted.
-
As the reviewers invited by the Ministry include overseas Chinese or international reviewers, please also submit an English curriculum vitae (CV) to facilitate the process.
-
Over the years, there have been fewer applications in the "Humanities and Arts" and "Social Sciences" categories; universities, colleges, and institutions are encouraged to recommend outstanding candidates in these fields.
