【Q&A】
👤 Q: Can I resubmit a proposal that was rejected last year?
👥 A: Yes. State clearly that it was previously submitted and not approved, and revise it based on reviewers’ comments.
👤 Q: If only one year of a multi-year project was approved, can I apply again for the rest?
👥 A: Yes. Indicate that the project was previously submitted as a multi-year plan and explain what is new or different this time.
👤 Q: Can I extend a student’s thesis into a new research proposal?
👥 A: Yes, but disclose all related information and specify which results were already completed in the thesis to avoid misleading reviewers about originality.
👤 Q: Can I reuse completed results to apply for a new project?
👥 A: No. Repackaging finished work as a “new” project misuses research resources and violates academic integrity.
【Reminder】
Academic research can be challenging and isolating. When preparing proposals—whether resubmitting, extending thesis work, or reviving old ideas—transparency is essential. Clearly explain what has been done before, what is new, and avoid unnecessary duplication. Concealing prior work harms personal credibility and public trust in academia.
Before submission, PIs should check:
- originality and innovation,
- accuracy of citations,
- explanations of continuity or thesis-based extensions,
- funding disclosure,
- completion of required academic-ethics training.
If your research involves human participants, complete ethics review after approval and before starting the study.
