- Topic:Evolution and Transformation of Academic Publishing
- Speaker:Assistant Professor Yu-Ju Liu, Department of Animal Science and Biotechnology, Tunghai University
- Overview:Academic publishing began in the 17th century, evolving from editor-driven decision-making to the emergence of the peer-review system in the mid-19th century, which became standard practice by the late 20th century. Digitization paved the way for open access models, and innovative journals have experimented with various review systems to enhance efficiency and transparency. Today, the publishing industry faces challenges such as paper mills and imbalances in the supply and demand of unpaid peer review, while also exploring applications of AI to promote more open and transparent scientific development. Understanding the trajectory and driving forces of academic journal development has become an essential skill for academic content creators.
