  • Time: Monday, October 19, 2026, 14:10–16:00.
  • Venue: Online via Google Meet.
  • Topic: The "AI Taste": Boundaries of AI Usage for Graduate Students through the Evolution of Academic Wording.
  • Speaker: Assistant Professor Chen-Wei Chiang, Department of Creative Technology and Product Design, National Taipei University of Business.
  • Course Description:

This talk quantifies the wording features commonly known as the "AI taste" by comparing paper texts from four Taiwanese academic journals published since 2018 with texts generated by large language models. These specific features have shown a significant increase in human-written papers after 2022. However, the exact reasons behind this surge cannot be determined solely by text analysis alone; identifying academic misconduct based on whether a text "sounds like AI" is inherently unreliable. Building on these findings, the speaker will address how AI can be appropriately integrated into research work, where the line must not be crossed, and to what extent AI usage should be disclosed when submitting manuscripts.
