Happy 36th Anniversary to Yuan Ze University Alumni Lunch Strengthens Unity

Yuan Ze University celebrated its 36th anniversary on March 8 with a series of events. As in previous years, Sports Day was held alongside the anniversary celebration, incorporating a Community Arts Festival and carnival and welcoming high school students to visit and learn about the university. The alumni lunch with 36 tables was an excellent opportunity to strengthen alumni bonds and unite faculty, staff, and students.

he Sports Day began with a fun run around the campus, led by President Ching-Jong Liao and attended by about 400 people, officially kicking off the anniversary celebrations. The anniversary ceremony took place at YZU Building 6, with Deputy Mayor of Taoyuan City, Jun-Bin Su, attending to offer congratulations. He expressed gratitude for the contributions of Yuan Ze University to local development and highlighted the university’s role in nurturing talent that supports the upgrading of Taoyuan's population and industries. He pointed out that as Taoyuan’s population has grown from 1.33 million in 1988 to an estimated 2.33 million in 2025, the industrial demands have shifted from traditional industries to diverse sectors such as information technology, electronics, and healthcare. Yuan Ze University has actively adjusted its academic disciplines, including the establishment of the School of Medicine and Healthcare last year, to meet international trends and industry needs. He praised the university’s outstanding performance in global rankings and corporate evaluations, committing to continued cooperation between the city and the university to enhance the competitiveness of both Taoyuan and the school, and drive the city's development.

President Ching-Jong Liao shared the journey of the university, from its establishment with just five departments to becoming a comprehensive university with six colleges and twenty-six departments. He recognized the university's achievements in academic research, talent cultivation, industry-academia collaboration, and international exchanges, cementing its important role in Taiwan's higher education landscape. Looking forward, he emphasized the university’s commitment to addressing challenges like digital transformation and deepening its focus on AI, smart manufacturing, semiconductors, and ESG development. He expressed gratitude to all faculty, staff, and students for their contributions to the university’s growth and aspirations for continued excellence.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to faculty members for their outstanding achievements, including the 2024 Global Top 2% Scientist award, Teacher Performance Excellence Award, and Young Scholar Research Award. In addition, the PhD Association of the College of Management was officially established, with Professor Shi-Jun Xu serving as the first Honorary President. The event also marked the election of Dr. Jian-Song Chen from the Class of 101 as the first president of the association.

This year’s 36th anniversary celebrations included an alumni lunch organized by the Public Affairs and Alumni Services Center in collaboration with the YZU Alumni Association, held at noon in the YZU Gymnasium. The event symbolized a roundtable gathering to strengthen alumni friendships and unite alumni, faculty, staff, and students. The atmosphere was vibrant, with 36 tables set up, marking an important milestone in the university’s history.

The event also recognized several outstanding alumni for their achievements and contributions to society. Among them were Li-Hua Tong, a graduate of the Master’s Program in Art Management at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, currently the Senior Director at Phillips Auction House in Hong Kong; Yun-Rui Li, a graduate of the Master’s Program in Information Science at the College of Information and founder and CEO of Kodak New Media Ltd.; Ren-Hou Huang, a graduate of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering, currently the Vice President of Operations at Shin-Etsu Chemical; Yu-Guang Huang, a graduate of the Department of Electrical Engineering (Optoelectronics) at the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering, and currently the Factory Manager at Xiamen Meirifeng Photomask Co., Ltd.; and Sheng-Feng Cheng, a graduate of the Department of International Business at the College of Management, currently the Chairman of Gogolook. Awards for Outstanding Alumni and the Ministry of Education’s Education Contribution Award were also presented in recognition of their significant accomplishments.

The 25th Community Arts Festival was held under the theme "Diverse and Colorful, A Feast of Art," with performances by the Oneness Sound Healing Orchestra and the Oboe Quartet offering a sensory experience of both sight and sound. The Office of Student Affairs arranged for tree climbing, ziplining, and low rope activities for attendees to enjoy.

The Academic Affairs Office organized fun activities like photo booth experiences, MV screenings, and campus exploration, encouraging attendees to share their photos on social media platforms, deepening their understanding of the Yuan Ze campus. Additionally, the Military Training Office hosted a shooting competition, showcasing the university's diverse and vibrant learning environment.
