Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
In response to the food safety incident involving the recall of certain soybean salad oil products after abnormal test results were reported to the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA), the Office of Health Services has conducted an investigation of all food vendors operating on campus during the summer vacation period.
The investigation confirmed that none of the campus dining facilities currently in operation have used any of the affected products announced by the TFDA. Therefore, members of the university community may continue to dine on campus with confidence.
The Office of Health Services has also requested all campus food vendors to strengthen ingredient inspection and acceptance procedures. We will continue to monitor the latest announcements from the TFDA, conduct follow-up inspections as necessary, and ensure that any products identified as affected are immediately removed from use or sale.
Thank you for your attention.
TFDA News Release
TFDA Initiates Recall and Inspection After Detection of Non-Compliant Soybean Salad Oil
Date: July 1, 2026
Issued by: Food Division, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA)
The TFDA received a voluntary report from Chung Lien Oil Co., Ltd. indicating that a batch of soybean salad oil supplied to Tai Shan Enterprise Co., Ltd., Fu Shou Industrial Co., Ltd., and Formosa Oilseed Processing Co., Ltd. was found to contain excessive levels of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) during self-inspection.
The affected batch (Batch No. 315-1150404, manufactured on April 4, 2026, expiration date September 30, 2026) tested at 8.1 μg/kg, exceeding Taiwan's regulatory limit of 2.0 μg/kg for edible oils.
Approximately 1,300 metric tons of the product were distributed as follows:
- Formosa Oilseed Processing Co., Ltd.: approximately 588 metric tons
- Fu Shou Industrial Co., Ltd.: approximately 421 metric tons
- Tai Shan Enterprise Co., Ltd.: approximately 291 metric tons
Upon notification, all affected companies immediately initiated product recall and removal procedures. Health authorities are continuing to supervise and monitor the recall process and have requested the manufacturer to review and improve its production processes.
The TFDA advises consumers who possess affected products to stop using them immediately and follow the manufacturers' refund or return procedures.
Benzo[a]pyrene is one type of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) that may form during food processing or result from environmental contamination. Taiwan has established regulatory limits for benzo[a]pyrene in edible oils to protect public health. Food businesses are required to implement effective self-management systems to ensure product safety and compliance with food safety regulations.
Businesses that discover products posing potential health risks must immediately cease sales, initiate recalls, and notify the local health authority. Failure to make such notifications may result in penalties ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$3,000,000 in accordance with the Food Safety and Sanitation Act.
