Hello everyone,

We are forwarding the notification from the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) regarding an animated video titled "How to Prevent Burkholderia gladioli and Bongkrekic Acid Contamination." This video is available in multiple languages, including Chinese, English, Thai, Filipino, Indonesian, and Vietnamese. The relevant links are as follows:

Low temperatures, short-term storage, and acidic environments can effectively inhibit the growth of Burkholderia gladioli. However, once Burkholderia gladioli produces Bongkrekic acid, its toxicity cannot be destroyed even through high-temperature or high-pressure cooking. Therefore, food should be refrigerated or frozen according to its characteristics. Any soaking or preliminary processing should be followed by immediate cooking, and cooked food should be consumed as soon as possible.

Bongkrekic acid can affect the liver, kidneys, and brain, leading to symptoms such as lethargy, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and vomiting. If similar gastrointestinal symptoms occur collectively, it is advised to keep any remaining food and seek medical assistance promptly.
